Fact #132

In today’s fact we learn about Sharks! Mr. Toes teaches us which is the fastest shark in the world, and even gets a visit from someone famous!

The Fact a Day:
Did you know that…Mako sharks are the fastest sharks in the ocean. However, there are two types of Mako sharks: The shortfin Mako, which is about 12.8 feet long and the longfin Mako, which is about 14 feet long.

The shortfin Mako’s are the ones which are built for speed, its body is streamlined like a bullet that minimizes water resistance, and its dorsal fins are short so they don’t create much drag. They can reach up to 35 MPH (56 KPH)! For comparison, the fastest human swimmer can only go about 6 MPH(9 KPH).
